Application : Water supply and Sanitation

The operations center of the CEO of Agen works on about sixty communities of the Lot-and-Garonne regional district, including:

  • the local water authority (Syndicat Unifié du Sud d'Agen),
  • the city of Agen.

In 1980, the CEO wanted to:

  • increase distribution safety (water quality and quantity),
  • achieve higher performance,
  • improve quality of service,
  • increase responsiveness,
  • monitor quality of discharge into sewers.

To achieve these objectives CEO selected SOFREL Remote Management equipment.

  • Working principles & Results

Since the first devices were installed in the 80s, CEO's expectations and needs have changed. SOFREL Remote Management equipment has always adapted to fit these evolving needs by offering increased I/O capacity, more features, support of various communications media, and more.

Today, the network comprises about forty SOFREL RTUs connected over the dial-up phone network or a dedicated line to the master station, via a front-end processor. Some devices also share data across the "Inter-RTU" link (allowing e.g. water tower/pumping servocontrol).

This resulted in quality-related benefits:

  • Better service due to the continuous monitoring of the physical characteristics of the supplied water,
  • Optimized pumping (energy savings by adjusting pumping during low-cost tariff periods),
  • Higher responsiveness and increased availability of the operators (alarm filtering).

The reliability and durability of SOFREL Remote Management solutions, coupled with high-performance local support (training, maintenance, etc.), also played a significant role in CEO satisfaction.
