Application : Water supply

In the Guadeloupe archipelago, the Générale des Eaux manages all of the expertise required to ensure the production and distribution of drinking water for the various local authorities.

Providing the distribution of over 47 million m³ of water to 120,000 customers, the Générale des Eaux Guadeloupe has decided to invest in the renewal of its remote monitoring and control equipment, installed over 15 years ago, in view of achieving the following objectives:

  • To increase the quality and safety of the distribution services
  • To optimize network efficiency
  • To increase speed of maintenance
  • To avoid situations of shortage or excess (hurricane period, drought).

SOFREL's innovative and open-ended remote terminal unit are current installed at over 90 SIAEAG and SIEAPAPA sites, connected by wireless and Public Switched Telephone Network links to 4 remote monitoring and control supervisory master stations in order to guarantee maximum safety for strategic hydraulic structures. These supervisory master stations are based at 3 sub-centers (St-Anne, Petit Bourg and Miquel) and at the Morne Vergain main operations center.

The initial results observed after commissioning of remote monitoring and control were two-fold:

  • Increase in network efficiency
thanks to analysis of supervisory master station data and pumping re-adjustment (search for leaks, tank filling ratios, etc.)
  • Improvement of the drinking water resource during the drought period by flow rate control ("valve control" function available on remote monitoring and control terminal units).

The performance levels and user-friendliness of SOFREL remote monitoring and control, along with the permanent modernization efforts made by the Générale des Eaux Guadeloupe have provided subscribers, through a global network vision, with a constantly improved service.
